As I heated the leftover paella, I thought this is going to be hectic day! I had over booked today with lots of activities. I wouldn’t recommend doing it unless you are a travel hog like me.
We started the morning with the group tour of Sagrada Familia. I have realized that my kids do much better listening to a guide than me explaining the history of a place to them, as they think mostly, “Mom doesn’t know the facts and she is so boring!”
The guide was extremely funny and the kids had a wonderful time on the tour… Score! We took the additional climbing the tower tour which was interesting. Me and the kids were panicking climbing down the stairs. I have a fear of heights and think I am passing that on to my kids too.
Next up, tapa hopping in the Barceloneta area. My husband couldn’t believe that we were doing that at 11 AM, but we only had a couple hours before we left for our next tour and this was the last day before we headed to Córdoba. I had a little convincing to do but we all agreed that we were hungry.
La Cova Fumada is a small place set back in time, with amazing amazing food! The neighborhood lacks tourists and reminds me of a small town in India. This was our best find in Barcelona.
We head to the next place, Can Maño, unfortunately it was closed for lunch hours. Jai-Ca nearby was the next on my list. It didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed the tapas and coffee after to keep us awake for the rest of the day! Like my son predicted, we just couldn’t make it to the fourth one on the list…Quimet & Quimet!
We decided to walk for thirty minutes back to our apartment to digest our food. It was a beautiful sunny day to walk, crossing Gothic Quarter and I didn’t want to miss seeing it on a sunny day.
With an hour to spare at our apartment before we headed to Montserrat tour, I thought we did good on trying to sneak a bit of downtime for kids and us.
The Montserrat tour was a great addition to the day as we all enjoyed the ride and the tour. It was a nice change to get out of the city to a tranquil place. I got to enjoy the liquors the monks make and different cheeses the villagers make and they were amazing, especially the fresh cottage cheese with honey. I even got us goat milk cheese with rosemary. It was just too tasty, so I shunned the thoughts about the trouble I might have to take getting it through US customs. Hopefully, I can get it past them, or I’ll be at the airport finishing it.
Like I said, don’t have too many activities planned if you can’t handle it in a day! We of course, had a concert to go to after our tour. And being stuck in a traffic jam on our way back from Montserrat was not a relaxing thought. We did make it to the concert but had to go in our travel clothes, which didn’t get us too much attention or glares at the concert hall… We all were a bit tired and jet lagged by now which didn’t stop us for going to a quick bite at Bar Del Pla.
Eleven thirty was not a bad time to sleep, as we still had seven hours until our train ride…
