Reasons, Córdoba

Mezquita

I have been eagerly waiting to visit the Mezquita in Córdoba. It is a extraordinary building which has been preserved as a Cathedral. It’s a splendid display of Moorish architecture with beautiful courtyards and gardens full of bitter orange trees.  I couldn’t stop taking pictures here. But, the pictures don’t do the justice to this beautiful Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba, you will have to visit it yourself to experience the beauty of this amazing monument. Our guide did a amazing job explaining the history of the Mezquita and Córdoban history.

We walked through the beautiful Jewish Quarter lanes afterwards, but to our disappointment, the Synagogue was closed down for repair. It was pouring by the time we were near the end of our tour, so we decided to take it easy and relax at our hotel.

I walked through the flower street, La Calle De Las Flores, once the rain stopped and wasn’t impressed. But, the colorful flowering patios are a must see in Córdoba. I didn’t go to the famous patios but I walked into many beautiful patios which were owned by small shop owners. The fragrance of orange blossom and the blue colored pots with spring flowers made the patios magical.

Places which I would recommend for food: Bodegas Mezquita (Conrregidor) (make reservations ahead), Regadera, another place we enjoyed, make reservations ahead too. This place is more modern Spanish dishes, it was a refreshing change from eating tradition food!  Córdoban food to try: Salmorejo, Tomato Cream soup, eggplants with honey and Flamenquin (pork). We took a private tour as our time was limited in Córdoba. I was glad we stayed a night in Córdoba rather than a day tour.

Córdoba was all I thought it would be and more…
